Sayyiduna Suhaib ibn Sinan رضي الله عنه narrated that Rasullullah ﷺ said, “Wondrous is the affair of the believer for there is good for him in every matter and this is not the case with anyone except the believer. If he is happy, then he thanks Allah and thus there is good for him, and if he is harmed, then he shows patience and thus there is good for him.”
In this world there are more hard times than easy times for a believer. In the Hereafter there is only happiness.
Allah ﷻ mentions in the Quran:
"And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient."
[AlBaqarah:155]
We may think that no one is tested with hunger at the moment but we see in many places in the world there are people who are dying from starvation. But also, in first world countries people are afflicted with illnesses sometimes related to hunger.
Everyone has to bear their own hardship in this world, muslim or non muslim. Some people show it and some people conceal it. As soon as you wake in the morning there is some hardship that you face. This is why as soon as you wake up you should thank Allah ﷻ.
Patience and gratefulness are great blessings. The following dua is mentioned in the hadeeth:
"O Allah, make me patient and grateful to You."
In many ahadeeth it has been mentioned what the rewards for various hardships are. For example if someone is in pain in a part of their body, they try medication, make dua to be cured but are patient then however long this pain lasts will increase their status on Jannah.
We should bare hardships with patience.
No corner in this world is without hardship; there is no rest except in the place where you are with Allah ﷻ. I.e remembering Him.
We all think that others in a different country have a more content life but in reality, actual peace and contentment is in the company of Allah ﷻ. In order to achieve this you need not to travel far. Wherever you remember Him: your bed, your bedroom, your musalla, your kitchen, wherever you are you will find contentment. In the Quran it has been mentioned:
Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest. [13:28]
We should acquire wealth in a legal manner however much we need and then dedicate the remaining time to Allah ﷻ by remembering Him.
If we acquire our wealth illegally then we will not have contentment.
It literally translates to “ Though it has come late, but it has come correctly. So whatever we wealth is meant to reach us will eventually reach us.
Whatever hardship you are in, remember Allah ﷻ and your heart will be content.
If you feel your heart is despondent i.e. your hearts tranquility is displaced and you cant concentrate on praying, then you should keep praying:
O Ever-Living and Eternal One, there is no God but You
When you constantly pray this then your heart will open up/it will start to feel less contricted. Hazrat Phulpuri ؒ has mentioned if you read this tasbeeh 10 - 11 times (approximately) the heart will start to open up.
Remember that one day you will have to die, we all will. We dont know the exact time that we will die.
Indeed, the time [set by] Allah, when it comes, will not be delayed [Nuh:4]
We can enjoy ourselves but enjoy ourselves in a halal way. May Allah ﷻ make us understand the reality that we will die and the world will end.
After we die someone else will inherit our wealth just as we have inherited the wealth of others. The world will belong to others just as it belongs to us now. Once we understand this our heart won't be so attached to worldly things. We will not fear dying. We will hope that Allah ﷻ is happy with us. We will know that when we leave the world we will acquire a better world in the Hereafter.
Regarding the world, the wealthiest of people will say, just thinking of the world compared to the bounties of Jannah brings a sour taste to the mouth!
May Allah ﷻ give us the ability to act upon what has been mentioned.
